In our second week of Advent, we light a candle of Peace. How timely, how relevant in a world in turmoil. As we meditated this morning, a familiar song came to mind - People of Peace by Carey Landry. The words seem so relevant in this moment in time:

"To be people of faith in times of doubt,

To be people of hope in times of despair,

To be people of peace, people of peace,

O (God), your instruments of peace."

I can't speak for anyone else but I am struggling daily with having faith and hope as I scroll through the constant feed of war and despair in Gaza and the Ukraine, in particular. When I read that Netanyahu will not stop "until the end" and that Putin says there will be no peace in Ukraine until goals are achieved, it is difficult to hold onto hope and faith.

But we have to hold on - with all of our might! We have to push our own darkness away, our anger, our overwhelm, and bring our own light to this dark world.

As a close friend reminded me today, we are surrounded by millions of like-minded friends around the world who hope, who bring light to those around them, who stand up for peace and a great love of humanity, no matter who or where they are. Let us not lose hope or faith. Let us carry our precious gifts of Christ's light within us to those who need it most!
